Background

Scalper uniquely encompasses left-field hip hop, introspective lyrics and dark mythological production starting out as part of Made in Britain releasing a white label in the mid 90’s titled Break the Crunch. The track reached number 5 in the Richie Rich British Underground Top 10 rap show on Kiss FM. He then spent time developing his writing and producing skills and collaborated with Mau, the vocalist from the critically acclaimed group Earthling. Since then he has gone on to collaborate and perform with noise mavericks 2nd Gen and the politically charged Fun:Da:Mental.

Scalper has released three EPs to date: the Scalper EP in 1997 and the 7th Thief EP in 1998, both released on the cutting edge label Flo Records. Described by the NME as ‘raucous, punk, ear-crunching hip hop’ it was the beginning of a devastating new sound. Next came the EP When the Angels Fight in 2002 which included the relentlessly bass heavy 'Airborne Disease', the fractured schizo-beats of 'Sickening Swells', and the stone-cold 'Poison Within', released by the up and coming Clockwork Recordings label.

In 2005 Scalper provided the original soundtrack for documentary film With(out) Words which was screened at the Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival and nominated for the Jerwood Prize.

Most recently, Scalper has collaborated with a number of different international artists including Larvae from Atlanta, USA for the Berlin based Ad Noiseam label, The Zodiac Project from Switzerland (a collaborative project between Zodiac and The Alpine Allstars) and for the French beat-heavy industrial noise makers F.Y.D. from Strasbourg in France – all three albums are scheduled for releases in 2006.

Performed with 2nd Gen at Noxious festival in France in june, check out pics taken by Marc Broussely a.k.a SonicMoo. Also just back from Lugano in Switzerland recording vocals on 3 tracks for Zodiac project on their new album due for release in 2006. 7th Thief is working on the debut album for a new hip hop artist. His name is "Canei" and they have finished 3 hot tracks which are in mixing process. Also supplied music for a documentary. Directed by Rebekah Kelly and titled "With(Out) Words". It is being shown as part of the Sheffield international documentary festival. Plus of course the Scalper album, which is sounding so serious. Keeping it a under wraps till it's cured. Vocalling a track for Larvae, he's a rude beat destroyer from Atlanta, USA. It's for his new album due for early 2006 release on ad noiseam. Also doing a vocal for F.Y.D, who again are heavy beat manipulators from Strasbourg in France. It's gonna be a F.Y.D / Scalper clash for their 2006 projects. Recorded vocals for a new track produced by Watts riot, and it's inteneded for the new Fun-Da-Mental album due this year and i gotta tell yer, his shit's heavy!!!. When i can , i will put up short mp3 of the tracks / projects i have mentioned. Will be adding photos soon and more downloadable tracks for Scalper people. 7th Thief is also in process of completing his instrumental album project. New Dj recently added to Scalper live set. Will inform of any gigs happening, but it's mainly studio work at moment.
